    Russia owned Alaska for a long time and feared losing it without compenstaion because they were in a difficult financial position. America was very interested in expanding into Alaska so Russia offered to sell it the U.S. in 1859. In 1867 the U.S. fianlly purchased Alaska for $7.2 million.

    After the U.S. purchased the Phillipines, there was soon an annexation of the Phillipines into the U.S. This created conflict and soon lead to a revolution lead by the Phillipines. Later when the U.S. got involved in WWII they agreed that they would give the Phillipines their independence in return for their help in the war. After WWII the Phillipines gained their independence again.

    The U.S. Main was blown up and soon the word was spread in America that it was the Spainards faults even though some believe it was a problem with the ship. Soon America declared war with Spain. The Teller Ammendment was adopted claiming that Cuba would gain their independence with American victory. On Aug. 12, 1898 the U.S. won to Spain's surrender.
