At the time, Russia had the ownership of the Alaskan land. It was in 1859 that Russia officially offered the land to America. They feared that, because of their financial position, they could possibly lose Alaska, so they decided to at least get compensation for the land, and sold it to the USA. -

By the time of thier disembandment, the Rough Riders were small in numbers. Most of the men had either been killed, wounded or were extremely ill or handicapped from foriegn unknown diseases. Some were even unable to work because of some of their hardships and injuries. -
