  • Bill of Rights Ratification

    Bill of Rights Ratification
    Its purpose was to protect minority from majority. It was designed to protect the basic rights of individuals from being taken away by the government. 9 out of 13 states had to ratify it for it to go into effect. James Madison was the main person that helped write the Bill of Rights.
  • Cotton Gin Invention

    Cotton Gin Invention
    Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. It helps quickly and efficiently separate cotton fibers from their seeds. It was popular in the south because they had more cotton farms.
  • XYZ Affairs

    XYZ Affairs
    Led to an undeclared war, the Quasi-War, of 1798 during John Adams' Rule. France sent to the U.S. three diplomats (X, Y, and Z) with unreasonable demands. Earlier France and the U.S. were allies. The conflict started when the U.S. didn't take Frances side in the British-French war.

    George Washington's Death
    Died in Mount Vernon, Virginia. George Washington was the first president of the United States. He was one of the major founding fathers of the United States. He was also the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He helped Americans gain independence from Great Britain.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    The United States purchased about 828,000 square miles of territory from France, which doubled the size of the country during Thomas Jefferson's rule.The land stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada. U.S. agreed to pay $15 million. It helped the economy grow and become stronger.
  • Alexander Hamilton's Death

    Alexander Hamilton's Death
    Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr fought in a duel with guns. Hamilton was the one shot and fatally wounded and died later the next day. Both Hamilton and Burr were successful politicians. Aaron Burr was the Vice President of the United States. Alexander Hamilton was a founding father, he helped come up with the Virginia Plan, and he wanted to open up a national bank.
  • Pike's Exploration

    Pike's Exploration
    The purpose of the expedition was to explore more of the Louisiana Purchase. Lewis and Clark were the first to explore, but they explored more north. Pike's Expedition was the second to explore the Louisiana Purchase and explored more to the south.
  • International Slave Trade Ban

    International Slave Trade Ban
    Congress bans international slave trade. The Constitution written in 1783 stated in article I, section 9 that international slave trade could not be banned before 1808. Thomas Jefferson signed a bill approved by Congress the day before “to prohibit the importation of slaves into any port or place within the jurisdiction of the United States.”
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    James Madison signed for the declaration of the War of 1812 against Britain. The cause of the war is the imprisonment of American sailors. Another cause was during the Napoleonic Wars the British messed with American trade with European nations. During the war Britain had captured Washington D.C. and burned down major governmental buildings including the White House and the Capitol. There was no clear winner of the war.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    It was the first major political clash between slavery and antislavery appeals in U.S. history. In 1819 Missouri requested for admission to the Union as a slave state which was threatening to upset the balance between slave states and free states. Congress passed a bill granting Missouri as an independent state but as a slave state under the condition that slavery was to be prohibited in the rest of the Louisiana Purchase north of the 36th parallel.
  • John Q. Adams Election

    John Q. Adams Election
    John Quincy Adams was elected as the 6th president of the United States. The election was in 1824 but he didn't get appointed president until the 4th of March 1825. For the first time in the history of the U.S., no candidate received a majority of electoral votes, however the election was decided by the House of Representatives.He had only served one term as president. In 1848 he died at age 80.

    Charles Carroll laid the first stone when construction on the railroad began at Baltimore harbor on July 4, 1828. Charles Carroll was the last surviving signer of the declaration of independence. The railroad was the first railroad that was going to be built in America. They are so important and also helped the phenomenon of the Industrial Revolution.
  • Typographer

    Typographer
    The first typographer, a typewriter, in America was made by William Austin Burt. President Andrew Jackson signed the patent on this day. It was the first typewriting machine that was made in America, even though it had already been invented in Italy in 1808. The machine just writes on a long strip of paper.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    A black slave named Nat Turner led this rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia. Nat Turner and a group of some followers killed around sixty white men, women, and children on this night. He and 16 of his followers were later captured and killed. After that slave rebellions were the biggest fear for white southerners.
