Election of 1800
In the presidential election between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr, there was a tie in elector votes. This brought the decision to the House of Representatives. To stop this from happening in the future and to gives states with lower populations an equal voice in democracy, the 12th amendment was created. -

The 12th Amendment makes it so that during an election, electors that cast their votes must cast two separate votes. One of these votes is for president and one is for vice president. -

Women wanted the right to vote and deserved the right to vote. To get this right, they turned to the act of protest. After many banners made and chants shouted, women were finally given the right to vote with the 19th Amendment. -

13th Amendment
The 13th amendment abolished slavery in the United States and in territories owned by the United States. -

Emancipation Proclamation
Abraham Lincoln, during his presidency, gave the Emancipation Proclamation in order to end slavery. However, this did not free all slaves, so Lincoln decided that to officially end slavery for good he'd have to make a change in the literal Constitution. He did this through the 13th Amendment. -
14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment gave everyone born in the United States, including former slaves, citizenship rights and a start to equal rights. -
15th Amendment
The 15th Amendment gave African Americans the right to vote. However, this only pertained to African American men. -
16th Amendment
The 16th Amendment started the government in collecting income taxes on all Americans. -
17th Amendment
The 17th Amendment gave people the right to vote for the senators leading them. It also allowed governors to pick the senators if the spot was empty. -
18th Amendment
The 18th Amendment prohibited people from making, selling, and delivering alcohol to Americans. -

Anti-Saloon League/Temperance Movement
Because of things like the Anti-Saloon League and the temperance movement, which highly condemned alcohol and believed it was the cause of most of America's issues, the 18th Amendment was passed. -

End of Prohibition Era
Alcohol was originally made illegal by the 18th amendment because many people thought that this would solve many problems faced by America. After we realized that alcohol was not as big of an issue as we previously believed, the 21st Amendment no longer made it illegal. -
19th Amendment
The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote-also known as women's suffrage. -
20th Amendment
The 20th Amendment set the time-span of elected government officials in their positions by setting specific dates they could be in office. -
21st Amendment
The 21st Amendment basically took back the 18th Amendment, which outlawed alcohol, by ending alcoholic prohibition in America. -
22nd Amendment
The 22nd Amendment made it so that President's couldn't serve more than two terms in office. It also listed other requirements for being president. -

Vietnam War
After the Vietnam War, many people were upset with the fact that young people at the age of 18 were able to be drafted for war, but weren't allowed to vote in the presidential elections of the United States. Because of the Voting Rights Act, the 26th Amendment took place. -

The 23rd Amendment gave citizens of the District of Colombia the right to vote in Presidential elections. -

Assassination of John F. Kennedy
After John F. Kennedy was killed, people didn't officially know who to follow. The 25th Amendment was made a few years later in order to make this known if something like this were to happen in the future. -
24th Amendment
The 24th Amendment got rid of the poll tax that used to exist when citizens wanted to vote in U.S. elections. -

End Poll Tax
The 24th Amendment stopped the poll tax, because it was used as a tactic to stop African Americans and other minorities from being able to vote, as many had less money due to oppression, and disabling their views from being heard. Because of this unfairness, the 24th Amendment was made. -
25th Amendment
The 25th Amendment says that if the President is no longer fit to uphold their duties, that the Vice President either permanently or temporarily is responsible for these duties. -
26th Amendment
The 26th Amendment gave people who were at least eighteen years of age the right to vote. -
27th Amendment
The 27th Amendment makes it so that members of Congress can't receive a pay raise or decrease within a term-they would have to wait for the next election. This makes it so that these members don't vote in ways that only benefit their personal paycheck.
