Amelia Earhart was born in Atchinson, Kansas. It was in the middle of a summer heat wave at 11:30 p.m. Amelia had one sister named Grace Muriel Earhart. They lived with their grandparents for most of their childhood. -

World War I started in 1914, and the United States entered the war against Germany in 1917. Ameilia worked as a nurse at a military hospital in Canada. Some of the patients she visited were injured pilots. This was when Ameilia knew that she wanted to fly. -

Amelia Earhart's plane disappeared in an around-the-world flight on July 2nd, 1937. Her body has never been found. What happened to her plane is still a mystery today. She probably crashed in the Pacific Ocean. She had flown 22,000 miles and had 7,000 miles left to go.
