Amazon river discovery
Francisco de Orellana was an Spanish explorer who discovered Amazonas River by Gonzalo Pizarro.
They named the jungle as ‘’dos amazonas’’ in memory of two aboriginal women that attacked them. -

Colonial Period
The beginning of the Colonial period in Colombia, this came up the forestal control over Popayan, Colombia lost a great part of the Amazon region during this time. -
European explorers
The first time Amazonas River was sailed by an European was Pedro Teixeira who went through the river and come back a year later in 1639 with Acuna and Artieda delegates of Peru’s Viceroy.
