Amanda was born -
Physical Problems
Amanda wasn't at a healthy weight. She weighted more than many of her friends. She overcame her challenge by eating nutritious meals, drinking 8 cups of water everyday, and excersing an hour everyday. -
Bad Overall Health
Even thought she overcame her physical health problem, she started having problems socially and mentally. She improved her overall health by getting along with others and having a positive outlook. Amanda also made thoughtful decisions and she seeked support when she needed to. -
Loss
Amanda's grandma dies. At first she was in denial and numbness. She couldn't believe that her grandma died. She couldn't image not seeing her everyday anymore. Then she starts emotional release. Amanda realizes that her grandma isn't there anymore. She spends every night crying herself to sleep. -
Flu
Amanda got the flu and she has to stay home for a whole week. She treated her flu by getting a proper rest, nutrition, and lots of fluids. She knows that next year she will get a flu vaccination, not get direct contact with someone infected, and always wash her hands so she won't get the flu again. -
Family History
Amanda learns that she needs to eat healthier because her family has a history of obesity. She will now have a lower risk of a stroke, unhealthful weight gain, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes. -
Dad Smokes Again
Amanda's dad is smoking again. She is really worried. She know that in the long run her dad can get lung cancer, a weakened immune system, or stroke. -
Puberty
Amanda is starting puberty. Two mental changes that happen is she has increasing memory and she can think logically. Two emotional changes that happen is she learns the meaning of personal value and she understands things from different points of view. -
Stressful Event
It's final exams week for Amanda. She needs to get an A on every exam or she won't graduate. She is stresing out a lot and it isn't helping her. It physically effected her by giving her headaches, high blood pressure, and a weakened immune system. Amanda relived her stress by getting a good rest. -
Best Friend Starts Drinking
Amanda's best friend starts drinking and she's worried. She knows that drinking will make you become intoxicated and it could damage your brain. Drinking will also cause you to have a higher risk of stroke and it can cause scarring to the liver tissue. -
Taking The Keys
Amanda noticed that her friend was drinking a lot. When it was time to leave, her friend got her keys. Amanda knew she couldn't drive because she was drunk but her friend wouldn't give her the keys. Amanda told her that her judgement is altered and her memory is disorganized. She will get into a car accident and die if she drives. Her friend finally gives her the keys. -
Staying Abstinent
Amanda is ready to have a boyfriend but her parents warn her about a couple of things. They told her to avoid dating someone who is sexually active. They also told her to avoid situations where she may feel pressured into sexual activity. Lastly, they told her to choose group outings where she can enjoy hanging out with her friends instead of being pressured. Amanda makes a pledge to stay abstinent.
