D-Day: The Invasion of Normandy Begins
3 part attack on the Normandy beaches in France. It was a joint force of Canadian, Brittish and Brave American troops. The first part was the drop of PAratroopers behind enemy lines. The second part was the bombing of German defenses from airbases in England. The third part was the amphibious landings at the 5 Normandy Beaches. -
Liberation of Paris
After the Allies had secured a foothold in Europe and began their land operations, the GErmans became unable to maintain their positions. 6 days prior to the Liberation of Paris, the French Resistance staged an uprising. Hitler ordered the German govenor in the area to burn Paris to the ground. The govenor instead surrendered to the Allies. -

Allied offensive in the Saar Valley
General George S. Patton is charged with assulting the West Wall on the Franco-German Border. Patton was suppose to attack with another commander but bad weather delayed him so Patton went in alone. On November 8 his troops crossed the Moselle River, capturing the city of Metz and pushed on into the Saar Valley. By the end they had bridgeheads established across the Saar River. -

Battle of the Bulge
The Germans begin with a counter attack to drive a wedge between Allied lines. A bulge full of German troops in created during this time. A sizeable U.S. force remained cut off and surrounded in the town of Bastogne and air support was denied due to weather. Eventually Ike called Patton up from the Saar Valley to save the day, and he did. -

Closing of the Ruhr Pocket
Allied forces moved across the Rhine at the bridge and town of Remagen. German troops had retreated into the Ruhr valley. The Allies encircled and trapped the Germans in the valley. It was the end of the German army being an effective fighting force in the west. -

The Battle of Berlin
Russian forces in the east assult the city of Berlin. Intense street fighting took place as the Russians entered the city. As the Russians closed in on the heart of the city, Hitler commited suicide. Soon after the war in Europoe was over.
