700 warships, 2500 landing craft, and 2700 suport ships went across the engish chanel landing on the Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword beaches. Germans did not expect the attack so they were not prepared and there were little casualties on the allies side. It was important to the allied victory because it helped them get a big headstart. -
Liberation of Paris
The Germans were basically starting to overrun france ever since d-day, so the french resistance movement planned an uprising against the german. Hearing this, Hiter wanted the German governor to burn down Paris. Instead, he made a truce and then surrendered. This is important to the allied victory because it made france become free again. -

Allied Offensive in the Saar Valley
Allied troops in the north wanted to focus on clearing the germans from the low countries. they wanted to go towards the west wall, but the bad weather made them delay. this made them cross the moselle river, capture the city of metz, and go into the saar valley. they eventually reached the west wall where they eventually got across the saar river and onto german soil. this is important to the aied victor becasue this is the first time they were able to get into germany. -

The Battle of the Bulge
The germans decided to capture the city of antwerp which was an important supply source for the allies. the allies werent expecting it and since there was bad weather, they had no air help. once the weather cleared and they started to leave the saar valley, the germans started to pull back. once all of the lost territory was regained, they started back toward the rhine. this is important to the allies victor because it showed that they didnt totally defeat the germans and they could still fight -

Closing of the Ruhr Pocket
The allies traped the germans in the west and continuted to go aross germany to attack. the german commander committed suicide and all of the soldiers left in the ruhr pocket surendered. this is important to the allied victory because they defeated a huge part of the german army.
