Alexander the Great's Life
After Alexander died, his empire collapsed. Over time, the cultures of Greece thrived as a side effect of Alexander's empire. The people of all the different lands that Alexander had conquered (Egypt, Persia, India) blended Greek culture with their own creating a new culture: The Hellenistic Culture. -

King Philip dies
King Philip is murdered by a bodyguard. His son Alexander becomes the new king of Macedonia and Greece at 20 years old. -
334 BCE
Alexander Conquers Persia
Alexander wanted to conquor the Perisian Empire. The king of the Persian Empire, King Darius, did not think Alex was much of a theat, so Darius sent other generals to fight. Alexander the Great quickly won the battle of the Granicus. -
333 BCE
Second battle with Persia
Alexander fights Darius at Issus. Darius had the larger army, but Alexander the Great used his phalanx formation to win. Darius fled the battle, but Alexander capturerd Darius’s wife and children. -
333 BCE
Peace Treaty
In attept to get his family, Darius offered Alexander half of his kingdom. Alex refused and challenged Darius to keep fighting. -
331 BCE
Battle of Gaugamela
This was the last war between Persians and Macedonians.
Again Darius saw that he couldn’t win and fled, but Darius soon died. Alexander the Great won the battle and finally became King of Persia. -
331 BCE
Conquour of Egypt
Two years later Alexander the Great conquered Egypt.
He founded the city of Alexandria and was proclaimed the son of the god Zeus. Alexander did not try to force his ideas of religion or culture on the people of Egypt. After designing the city of Alexandria he left to continue his conquests. -
328 BCE
Marriage
Alexander married a Persian woman, Roxanne, who was Darius III’s daughter and convinced his soldiers to marry Persians too. -
323 BCE
Alexander's final days
On his way back to Greece from India, Alexander became ill and died in Babylon (current day Iraq). He may have
died of sickness or he may have been poisoned.
