Alex's History of Special Education

    Alex met David!
In second grade, I had a classmate named David. He had an adult with him the whole day at school. In my mind, I identified David's adult as his "babysitter". David was nonverbal, he mainly mumbled and made groaning sounds. Even though I couldn't understand his words, I could tell he was a very happy kid.

    Working at D-15
My first teaching job was as an aide for a Special Education class. D-15 consisted of 4th and 5th graders primarily with learning disabilities and behavior issues. I was hired because the class consisted primarily boys and they wanted a male role model. It was a very memorable experience and I still keep in touch with some of the students. That job inspired me to become a teacher.
