Truman Doctrine
Truman asked for $400 million in aid for Greece and Turkey in a joint session in Congress. In requesting this, he established the Truman Doctrine. -
European Recovery Program
The Truman Doctrine was followed by the European Recovery Program. Proposed by General George C. Marshall, U.S. Secretary of State, its better known as the Marshall Plan. The plan provided $13 billion to rebuild the war torn Europe. -
Containment Idea
George Kennan argued for a policy of containment, to keep communism within its existing boundaries and prevent further aggreissve Soviet moves. -

The Soviet Union responded to the Marshall Plan by founding the Council for MUtual Economic Assistance for the economic cooperation of the Eastern European states. COMECON largely failed and were not able to provide much financial aid. -
