    Alan Chalmers
    Alan Chalmers is a philosopher of science born in Bristol, United Kingdom. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in physics at the University of Bristol in 1961. He obtained his Master of Science in physics at the University of Manchester in 1964. Finally, he obtained his Ph.D. from the University in London for his work on the electromagnetic theory that was created by James Clerk Maxwell.

He goes over different schools of thought and carefully questions them. He shows that scientific knowledge cannot be proved nor disproved by referencing the facts.

It is a reflection of the past theories about the atom. He contrasts the differences between philosophical theories and scientific theories about what the world is made out of. It was the first work to lay out all the theories throughout time of the theories of atoms.
