Childhood
Born January 17th 1899 In Brooklyn, New York.
Baptized as "Alphonus Capone.'
Growing up, Capone had a rough childhood, he was a member of two "kid gangs." The Brooklyn Rippers and the Forty Thieves, he also dropped out of school in the sixth grade at age fourteen. -
First Arrest
Capone's fist arrest was for disorderly conduct. He also murdered two people at this time but no one admitted to seeing or hearing anything about it, so Capone was never tried for the murders. -
Family and Kids
Al Capone t a woman named Mary "Mae" Coughlin. On Decemeber 4th 1918 Mary gave birth the their son, Albert "Sonny" Francis. Capone and Coughlin got married that year on December 30th. -
Capone Becomes Boss
Capone went to work for Yale's old mentor, John Torrio.
Torio liked Capone and all of Tarrio's men liked him too. Capone helped Torrio manage his boot leggin business. By 1922 Capone was ranked the number two man and eventually became a full partner in saloons, brothels, and gambling houses. But Torrio gets shot and decides to leave Chicago, making Capone the big boss. -
Paying Off the City?
Capone payed off almost anybody he could in order to not get caught. He payed off the news papers, the mayor, and sometimes just random people if he had too. Capone pretty much had control over Chicago and no body could do anything about it. -
Tricking the CIty
Before the Valentine's Day Massacre everybody thought Capone was a "good guy." After the stock market crash Capone was the first to open up soup kitchens and give out cloths. He even dressed up as Santa Claus for Christmas while the children sat in his lap. -
St. Valentines Day Massacre
February 14th, 1929 Capone had four of his men go down to a parking garage on 2122 N. Clark Street, two of his men were dresses as police officers. They went into the garage and murdered seven of Bug Moran's men with machine guns, using over 150 bullets. -
Mob Bosses Unite
After the Valentines Day Massacre had occured all the other mob bosses from different cities were starting to get concered, so they all united to settle things out. -
Herbert Hoover Wants Capone In Jail
Capone couldn't get in trouble for anything, so the government wanted to indict Capone for income tax evasion, but Capone had nothing in his name, never filled out income tax return, and never made a decleration of assets or income. His home in Florida was even owned by his wife. It took Herbert Hoover a little while to find him, but they did. And Capone was sent to Jail. -
Time in Federal Prison
Capone tried to bribe the jury into saying he was innocent but at the very last minute judge Wilkerson changed the panel, Capone was found guilty for all charges and was sent to a federal prison in Atlanta where he would spend the next eleven years. But Capone even took over Atlanta so they sent him Alcatraz. -
Capone's Death After Federal Prison
Capone was released from Alcatraz after serving his time. He spent a short time in the hospital, but after theat returned to his home in Palm Island. On January 24th, 1947 Capone passed away from cardiac arrest.
