African Slave Trade: The Reasons

    The Dutch founded Cape Town in Africa to establish a generalized trading post. It later turned into a city for African residents.
  • Capture

    Even later, the British began to colonize on Africa. Just like what happened in the Americas with the Native Americans and manifest destiny, the British attacked the Cape Town and took control.
  • The Boers

    The Boers
    The Boers established 2 independant states followed by a constitution called the Aparthied. The aparthied had unfair laws and little or no rights for the black inhabitants of South Africa.
  • Battle

    Battle
    Because of the reason Great Britain wanted more land and money, they soon came into conflict with the Boers. The battle ended with the British with more land and boers running away, looking for more land.
  • Gold!

    George Harrison found gold in Witwatersrand! Though his claim only sold for $14, it didn't go unnoticed. in only 2 years, the population nearly tripled!
  • Colonization

    The British colonies of the south became the USA, or Union of South Africa.
  • LAWS

    LAWS
    The Aparthied became the official policy of South Africa, which meant more racial laws and unfair treatment with no rights for blacks.
  • LAWS 2

    The gorvernment made arrests and used violence against members of the ANC, and stands for African National Congress which was against the Aparthied and demands racial justice.
  • No More LAWS!

    No More LAWS!
    The government was forced to change most of the laws of the Aparthied to to negative effects on the economy.

    In 1985, the United States desided along with the British, to put economic sanctions on South Africa.

    In 1989, William Klerk became president and helped apeal some of the Aparthied laws, but still never completely canceled the entire plan.

    In 1993, a new Constitution now allows all adults to vote; even black South African Residents.
  • FINALLY!!

    FINALLY!!
    In 1994, Nelson Mandela was elected president. in his five-year term, he helped clear most of the Racial laws in South Africa. and in saying most, that goes a far way, because he himself was the first black president. He retired in 1999.
