Emancipation Proclomation
It was issued on January 1, 1863 by Abraham Lincoln. It was stated that the war was for freedom and it did not free all of the slaves only the slaves that were living in states under union control. -
13th Amendment
It abolished slavery in the United States. Punishment would only happen if their was a crime. -
15th Amendment
It protects Americans rights to vote in elections for their leader. It lists conditions that are illegal to deny another operson the right to vote, based on their coler, race or if they were a former slave.

The nations oldest and most widely recognized grass-roots based on civil rights organization. It was in response to the horrific practice and the 1908 race riot in Springfield,Illinois. -
Ernie Davis
First african american to win the Heisman trophy. He was inducted into the college football hall of fame. He played for Syracuse university. He was the first black athlete to be chosen 1st overall in the NFL draft. -
Jackie Robinson
First african american to play in the MLB for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He had to serve in the U.S. army before being able to play. Broke the color barrier in 1947. -
Brown vs. Board
His name was Oliver Brown, and he ended the segregation in public schools. The court date was May 17, 1954. -

The speech was in Washington D.C. On the steps of the Licoln Memorial. He wanted peace between the whites and blacks. -

Martin Luther King Assassination
April 4, 1968 Martin Luther King was assassinated. He was killed at the Korraine Motel in Memphis, Tennesee. James Earl Ray killed him.
