Hassan gets raped
After Amir and Hassan won the kite compitition, Assef raped Hassan. The rape was a defining day for Amir because he stood there and watched. He said that " I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975." (Hosseini 1). Amir's childhood was defined by that one day. The day he saw somone hurt his friend and did nothing. The regret followed him for years and changed Hassan and Amir's friendship forever. -
Ali and Hassan quit working for Baba and Amir
The day that Hassan left was a turning point for Amir and Baba.The two people who had been so loyal to them left " This was Hassan's final sacrifice for me." (Hosseini 105). Amir had betrayed Hassan so many times and yet Hassan still was loyal and would do anything for Amir even sacrifice the one place he called home. Their friendship was something that Amir had to learn to live without. He learned that from then on no one will protect him quite like Hassan. -

Amir and Baba leave Kabul
Amir was going to miss Kabul and he was 0scared to have to start a new life somewhere new. On the bus Amir started to hope none of the chaos was real "This had to be a dream. Had to be." (Hosseini 113). Amir already had to adjust to not having Hassan around and now he had to start a new life in California. Amir knew it was not going to be easy but he had to stay strong for Baba and himself. -
Amir graduate from High school
Moving was not easy for Amir. He had to stay strong and stay true to himself. He knew that getting a good education was the only to make it in America. Amir pushed through and finally graduated high school " I graduated from high school at the age of twenty, by far the oldest senior tossing his mortarboard on the football field that day.” (Hosseini 131). Graduating high school was hard for Amir but he knew that his dreams of being a writer would only come true if he graduated. -
Amir meets Soraya
When Amir meets Soraya he sees that she is the most beautiful girl and insatntly falls in love. He knew soraya was the one, "Soraya Swap Meet Princess. The morning sun to my Yelda." (Hosseini 144). Soraya was the perfect girl for Amir. She could be the one to help Amir forget about his past and forgive himself. -
Baba gets cancer
Baba gets cancer and refuses treatment because he would rather not go through the pain of treatment. Baba makes the couragous desision to die with a happy life and says "It means it wouldn't change the outcome, just prolong it." (Hosseini 156). Baba was a strong man who knew what was beast for him and his family. Baba knew it would be hard but the treatment woud only make him worse. -
Amir and Soraya get married
Amir was always in love with Soraya and the day that he dreamed of finally came."I'm happy you came. It means the world to me." (Hosseini 161). Amir knew that marring Soraya was another chance to move on with his life. Amir knew he could not pass up the oppertunity to marry the girl of his dreams and have his dad be proud of him for one last time. -
Amir gets his first book published
Years after meeting Soraya and finishing high school Amir writes a book hi finds out that it is going to be publishes when, "Six weeks later, a man named Martin Greenwalt called from New York and offered to represent me." (Hosseini 183). All amir ever wanted to do was be a writer and now was his chance. Has seen through his eyes that he was successful now and he was someone Baba would be proud of. -

Amir finds out Rahim Khan is sick
When Amir finds out Rahim Khan id sick he knows that he has to go and grant his dying wish. He tells Soraya, " When i was a kid he was the first grown-up I ever thought of as a friend" (Hosseini 191). Rahim Kahn dying was hard foe Amir. Rahim kHan was the only person that always believed in him even when Baba didn't. He knew going to see Rahim khan would be hard because he was the last person Amir had from his childhood. -
Amir goes to Pakistan
When Amir weant to Pakistan he was confused about how he fealt. Once they met up Rahim Khan said to Amir, "It's wonderfully strange to see you as a grown man." (Hosseini 197). Amir always had support frm Rahim Khan, But since they are older their friendship had to change. Amir had to face adult problems like the fact that Hassan was killed and he was also his half brother. This news was not easy for Amir but he knew Rahim Khanwould only tell him these thing because he knew Amir was strong. -
Amir returns to Kabul
In a letter that Amir recives it states, "Kindness is gone from the land and you cannot escape the killings" (Hosseini 216). Kabul was much different than Amir rembers. Amir had been rich and not seen the provety in his own countrt. Going back he had to come face to face it and be grateful for what he had. -
Amir meets the taliban
Amir first meets the taliban at a soccer game. He tells them he has offical business with the head of the group. After meeting them a word slips out .thats tells Amir that, ", After all these years. His name escaped my lips: "Assef"". (Hosseini 281). After all the time had passed Amir had finally come face to face with the person who raped his friend. What Assef did to Hassan was a defining moment in his life, it was the day that Amir could not forgive himself for. -
Amir Meets Sohrab
When Assef bring Sohrab out Amir imeditly see that he is a splitting image of his father, " The boy had his father's round moon face, hid pointy stub of a chin, his twisted, seashellears, and the same slight frame." (Hosseini 279). Seeing Sohrab for the first tim had reminded Amir of everything that Hassan did. Sohrab was everthing that Amir loved about Hassan. -
Sohrab tries to commit suicide
when Amir walked in to the bathroom he said that he " Screaming untilI thought I thought my throat would rip and my chest explode." Amir had let Hassan get away and he was not about to let the boy he promiced to take care of die. He had grown a strong liking for Sohrab an had to protect him from everythig including himself. -
Amir brings Sohrab back to America
Amir finally came thrugh and got to bring Sohrab home to California. When they were in the park flying kites just like Amir and Hassan used to do Amir said to Sohrab, "For you a thousand times over" (Hosseini 137). That had been something between Amir and Hassan but now Amir had the chance to share that with his nephew. -
