Lin-Manuel was born to Luis Antonio Miranda Jr, who was born in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico in August 23rd, 1954. He is a political strategist, philanthropist, and advocacy consultant. Miranda was also born to Luz Towns Miranda, who is a clinical psychologist and was born in Puerto Rico. -

The Start to Broadway
Miranda made his very first draft of what would later be his first Broadway Musical while in college, In The Heights, in 1999. Later in the same year, Wesleyan's student theatre company had accepted to play the show, and Miranda had added some freestyle rap and salsa numbers in the show. He wrote and acted in various other plays and musicals, including some Shakespeare works while in college. In The Heights would later become a Broadway production in 2005 and a film in 2021. -
College
Miranda went to college at Wesleyan College and graduated in 2002. He also had wrote a draft of what would have been his first Broadway Musical while in college in 1999 called In The Heights. -
The Hip of the Hop
Lin-Manuel co-founded a hip hip improv group in 2003 named Freestyle Love Supreme. Together, they have toured the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, as well as the Aspen, Melbourne and Montreal Comedy festivals. The group created a limited television series for Pivot in 2014 and made its Broadway debut on October 2, 2019, at the Booth Theatre. The self-titled show gained positive reviews. -
Work
Within the times of 2008 and 2009, Lin-Manuel worked with several others on many shows like the revised version of Schwartz and Nina Faso's 1978 musical Working, the 2009 Broadway revival West Side Story, becoming a teacher at his old high school, and wrote for the Manhattan Times as a columnist and restaurant critic, and creating music for commercials. -
Miranda's Spouse
Miranda married his current spouse Vanessa Nadal back in 2010, and have made it as far as having children together as well. -
Bring It On: The Musical
Miranda had co-wrote the music and lyrics for musical production Bring It On: The Musical, along with Tom Kitt and Amanda Green. It began a US national tour in LA, Cali, on October 30th, 2011. -
21 Chump Street
Miranda had also wrote the lyrics and music for another theatrical production in 2014 known as 21 Chump Street, and performed as the narrator of the performance. It took place on June 7th, 2014, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. -
And Yet, Another Performance!
Later in the same year and month, Manuel had also starred in the June 2014 Encores! revival of Jonathan Larson's Tick, Tick... Boom!, under the artistic direction of Jeanine Tesori. The show was directed by Oliver Butler. -
Sebastian and Francisco
Sebastian was born in 2014, most likely on November 10th. He was named Sebastian after the Jamaican crab from The Little Mermaid, one of Lin-Manuel's favorite animated films. He was also in the production babies section of the credits in the animated film Moana, a film Lin-Manuel wrote the songs for the film. His second son, Francisco, was born in 2018, and was named on the production babies part of the credits for animated film Vivo. -
The Cream of the Crop
In 2008, Miranda read the biography of Alexander Hamilton, by Ron Chernow, which had inspired him to make a rap about it, and later, a widely accepted and awarded Broadway musical production under the name of Hamilton: An American Musical, which premiered off-Broadway at The Public Theater in January 2015, directed by Thomas Kail. Miranda wrote the book and score and starred as the title character. In the performance, had acted alongside Daveed DIggs, Johnathan Groff, Leslie Odom, Jr, and more. -
Freestyling with Barack
On March 15th, 2016, many members of the cast of Hamilton performed at the White House and hosted workshops; Miranda performed freestyle rap from prompts held up by President Obama. -
Hamilton: The Revolution
In April of 2016, Miranda and Jeremy McCarter published Hamilton: The Revolution, a book describing Hamilton's journey from conception to Broadway success. It also discusses the sense of cultural revolution that permeates the show. -
Songwriting
Miranda has made many songs for a few animated and live action films and performances, such as Moana (2016), Vivo (2021), Encanto (2021), and The Little Mermaid (2023), famous and multi award winning Broadway performance Hamilton (2015), Mary Poppins Returns (2018), and more. -
Musical Awards!!
Between the times of 2016 and 2023, Manuel had received many awards for his work in creating music across multiple productions he contributed to, such as receiving Best Song Written and/or Recorded For Television in 2022 for animated film Encanto, Best Song Written for Visual Media in 2018 for Moana, and many musical awards for Hamilton. -

Fighting for Poverty
Miranda has also been known to press on and fight against poverty ever since a young age. His influence and fame has also helped him to fight poverty across various communities hard and hoping to find a solution for such a problem. -
