Life in the trench
Life in the trenches was not the most luxurious one. They would do chores and repairs in the day time and advance in the cover of the night. The soldiers in the trenches were witness to many people's horrible end. The threat of the war kept the soldiers on a constant state of edge. There were rats and lice that ate at their health. Overall it was a horrible experience. -

Why the war began
The first world war had started because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferinand. There had been tension through out Europe before the war for many years. When the war had broken out there were two different sides. The triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. Canada had gone to war to help our ‘Mother Country.’ -

The Nursing Sisters +1
Although not on the front lines the nursing sisters still felt the warfare going on outside. They tended to the wounded. They were called the Nursing Sisters because of religious reasons and stigma that women were natural caretakers. Many of them died from warfare or sickness. The public hated the idea of the Nursing Sisters getting hurt and put up war propaganda as a result. A lot of the nurses helped lessen the stigma that women were weak and fragile. -
Francis Pegahmagabow -1
Francis Pegahmagabow was one of the first members of the 2nd battle of Ypres. That was the battle the Germans introduced poison gas. He saw the after effects of the gas first hand. He did play a major part in the war being a great sniper, he still faced discrimination.
A quote from Francis Pegahmagabow states “When he was in uniform he was considered an equal…by what he could do. When he came back, he just went back to being Indian. Indians at the time were not even Canadian citizens.” -
The war has come to an end
The war had finally ended leaving imprints on the world and its people. -
Workers strike -1
In 1919 there was one of the largest general strikes in Canada due to lower wages. More than 30 000 workers had left their jobs. The strike had left people arrested and injured and resulted in the death of two protesters. The strike had united the working class together with a common goal. After the first world war unemployment was high and many things were hard to afford. -
The Roaring Twenties has started
After the aftermath of the WW1 people were eager to celebrate it being over. For some people the Twenties were an amazing time full of celebration, for others the effects of the world were still taking a toll. -
Residential Schools -2
First nations children were mentally, physically and sexually abused in these schools as well as being forced to forget their native language.
A part of a quote from Duncan Campbell Scott had stated, "I want to get rid of the Indian problem. I do not think as a matter of fact, that the country ought to continuously protect a class of people who are able to stand alone."
Which is highly unfair and discriminatory in my opinion. -
Rights Of Women +1
White women were granted the right to vote. A lot of women were still struggling to earn decent wages or even get jobs. They did earn the right to be considered a person.
