Due to a peace agreement formed between the Soviets and the Mujahideen, the Soviets began to remove their troops in May of 1988 and finished in early 1989, leaving the country to the Taliban. -

The Taliban enforced strict laws upon the Afghan people, leaving the women with little to no rights. -
Mohammed Najibullah is Assassinated
Najibullah is presdient of Afghanistan until he is assassinated by the Taliban in 1996. He died by being dragged behind a truck on the streets. After his death, he was hanged on display to show the public the power the Taliban. -
Zalmai is Born
Laila is in labor and cannot go to a hospital because most hospitals don't tend to women. -
Aziza is Sent to the Orphanage
