Aldermen came to her house and met to talk about her taxes and Miss Emily told them "I have no taxes in Jefferson. Colonel Sartoris explained it to me. Perhaps one of you can gain access to the city records and satisfy yourselves." -
New Generation

The Smell

Night time walk
one night at midnight "four men crossed the lawn of Miss Emily's lawn and slunk about the house like burglers," the men broke into her cellar and sprinkled lime and after a week or two the smell went away. -
