The Compromise of 1820
This compromise of 1820 was the Missouri Compromise. The compromise was between anit-slavery and pro-slavery involving the regulations of slavery in the western states. -
Slavery Issue
The issue of slavery came up again when the United States gained territory from Mexico. The North and South fought over who would have the land. They also debated over if it would be pro-slavery or anti-slavery. This was also having an influence on politics. -
Willmot Proviso
This was a bill that prevented slavery from Mexico to balance the North vs. the South. -
Free Soil Party
The Free Soil Party was the 3rd political party. This party was anit salve. This also opposed the expantion of slavery. -
The Compromise of 1850
Defused a four year confrontation between the slave states of the South and the free states of the North regarding the status of territories. -
Fugitive Slave Act
This was apart of the Compromise of 1850. This cause many problmes especially in the North. -
Bleeding Kansas
Bleeding Kansas was a series of violent political problems involving anti-slavery and pro-slavery. -
The Kansas- Nebraska Act
This act created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska, opening new alnds for settlements. This split the nation. -
Dred Scott Decision
There was two ruling. One of them was African Americans were not citizens. The second was the federal government had no power to regulate slavery in any territory acquired. -
Lincoln and Douglass
Lincoln said that he was not going to end slavery but he was going to try to stop the spread of slavery. Douglass thought that the states should decide. -
Harpers Ferry
Harpurs tried to start a rebellion on slavery. He did not believe in salvery and wanted to stop it. This caused other people to start rebellions. -
Lincoln Election
This is when Lincoln was elected in to office to be the President of the United States.
