we are introduced to salva. He lives in Southern Sudan. He starts off the book being at school. He's not really paying attention until a CRACK! and then a Gunfire! their was a war going on because they were fighting the government. And then Salva ran away from home alone. -
Chapter 2 (Salva)
Salva ran until he could not run anymore. The he walked for hours. Other people were also walking many people weren't from the same village though. -

Salva is lost he's pack where their were a lot of people. But then he saw a lady with dinka tribe patterns. Salva went to her and stayed but unfortunately the lady had to leave -

The conflict in this chapter is character vs nature. It is shown when -
chapter 10 (Salva)
One important event is when salvas uncle says he's going to drop off salva in the refugee camp and then he's going to sudan to fight in the war. Another one is when they saw six men with dangerous weapons. And then they killed salvas uncle. -
chaptet 12 (salva)
setting change they are now the itang refugee. He's live is changing because he is alone and he somewhere new. He's doing new things. -
chapter 11 (salva)
Setting changes to Sudan to Ethiopia. Salva shows perseverance when to his own surprise, Salva walks more quickly than he did before. He feels numb, and yet he also knows that Jewiir would have wanted him to fight to survive instead of despairing. -
chapter 12 ( Salva)
Salva is 17 now. The camp is closing. The eithiopian government was near to collapse. He's life hasn't really changed. -
Chapter 1 (Nya)
We are also introduced to Nya. She was on her way to get water for her family. And she has been doing this for 11 years. -
Chapter 2 (Nya)
While she was getting water she came upon a thorn. It was a big thorn that had broken off right in the middle of her heel. -

Nya arrives home and gives the water to her mother -

Nya and her family had been back in the village ever since the vistors came. Two men came in a jeep and they spoke to the biggest boys. -
chapter 10 (nya)
I think the strange men are trying to find water resources that is close to their village -
chapter 11 (nya)
Nya finds it hard to believe that the men will find water in her village because the task of cleaning more of the land between the trees began -
chapter 12 (nya)
The red iron giraffe is a drill for water. The villagers work clearing the land, collecting rocks and bringing them to the drilling site, then breaking rocks into gravel. -
chapter 13 (nya)
Two men came one was the boss the other looked liked his main assistant. -
chapter 14 (nya)
New water was coming out of the hole. Everyone in the village was very happy about this. They were celebrating.
