    Compromise of 1850
    The Compromise of 1850 was a group of acts passed that would deal with California becoming a free state and the issue of slavery. These acts would deal with different borders in the United States and different lands and California was asking to be admitted as a free state. For slavery these acts would call for the slave trade to end in Washington D.C. and for the Fugitive Slave Act to be amended.

    After the Compromise of 1850 and a long process with much debate California was finally admitted as a free state. California was now a free and non-slavery state and joined the Union as the 31st State of the United States of America.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by a white abolitionist woman named Harriet Beecher Stowe. Her book would go on to push the civil war to happen and it had much significance to bringing slavery to right and pushing for a necessary change to happen in the United States.

    The Republican party was officially created in 1854 and it was created to stop the spread of slavery in the West. The political parties were being created to fight and combat for what they believed was right.

    The Kansas Nebraska Act was an act that created Kansas and Nebraska and made it so that the states could chose whether slavery was or was not accepted into their state. This act would also eventually lead to what we now know as an event called the "Bloody Kansas".

    In the Dred Scott Decision the Supreme Court decided that an African American person was not considered a citizen and could not earn citizenship so they could not expect the same protection from the government or protection from the constitution as a white citizen of America.

    The presidential Election of 1860 was won by President Abraham Lincoln. He won through the electoral votes against 3 other candidates. Lincoln's election would shape the path for America abolishing slavery and lead up to the Civil War.
