First commercial sales of mobile phones
After being approved in late 1983, Motorola began sales of the first ever mobile phone, the DynaTAC 8000X. They released a complete line, including car phones. They cost approximately $4000 USD (Goodwin 2015). -

22 year-old test engineer for Sema Group in the UK was the first to send an SMS message. It was sent from a personal computer to a mobile device. The message simply wrote, "Merry Christmas" (Snowden 2006, p. 107). -

Apple announce iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
Apple announce the newest (and current) iPhone. In addition to the standard iPhone release, Apple announced they would be releasing two iPhones - one a bigger version, named the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 Plus can be described as a bridge between a standard iPhone and the iPad.
