    An election between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. February, 1801, the Congress votes 35 times with no majority every single time. Local newspapers reported that military intervention may occur. Soon Pennsylvania and Virgina have their militias ready to fight. Finally on February 17, some Federalists in Congress were tired of voting. They didn't vote and Jefferson ended up winning the election. He won 10 states.

    This was the first time the Supreme court declared an act or election unconsitutuional. This act is also known as Judicial Review.

    The Louisiana Purchase was signed by Robert Livingston, James Monroe, Barbe Marbois in Paris. It cost 15 million dollars . In todays money that would be about $158992728.58. The Americans bought the Louisiana Territory from the French.

    Lewis and Clark Reach the Pacific Ocean
    Lewis and Clark continued to follow the Missouri River by the Spring of 1805. They then proceeded to cross the Continental Divide at Lemhi Pass. From there they followed the Salmon, Clearwater, Snake and Columbia Rivers until they reached their end result of the Pacific Ocean on November 7.

    The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812. This treaty entitled all the land the British owned in America back to the Americans. It also entitled all the land the Americans had in Canada back to the British. The British also agreed to return all freed black slaves. The Treaty was finally approved by the United States Senate on February 16, 1815.
