  • Steam Engine

    Steam Engine
    Thomas Savery was the first person to invent the steam engine in 1698. He was working on an invention to pump the water out of coal mines and came up with the steam engine. Later, more inventers would work on and perfect this design.
  • French Revolution

    French Revolution
    The people of France storm the Bastile and the king and queen are captured. They are both beheaded which starts the Reign of Terror. Many people die until the people decided it was going to far so Robespierre is killed.
  • Haitian Revolution

    Haitian Revolution
    This was an uprising of African slaves against the French in Haiti. It lasted for twelve years until the Africans won and beat the French. Haiti was the first nation to be established by Africans in the New World.
  • Congress of Vienna

    Congress of Vienna
    The Congress of Vienna was a meeting of various European leaders to discuss the Napoleonic Wars and the French Revolutions. In the end, they ended up establishing new bounderies for the European countries.
  • Mexican Independence

    This was a war between Spain and the people in Mexico for their independence. Major leaders in this movement include Miguel Hidalgo and Vicente Guerrero.
  • Opium War

    Opium War
    The Chinese and the British had many disputes about trade and had issues about deplomacy. The British merchants were illegally smuggling opium into China in definence of them which started the First Opium War.

    This was a book written in 1848 about the communist party. It is one of the most important political manuscripts in history. It lays out the principles and purposes of the communists.
  • Matt Perry goes to Japan

    Matt Perry goes to Japan
    In 1954 Matthew C. Perry left for Japan in a large, armed steamboat in search of trade with the Japanese. He arrived in Nagasaki and presented a letter from President Fillmore and left for the coast of China.
  • The Sepoy Mutiny

    The Sepoys are Indians that were taken under British rule and forced to be soldiers. They heard that their bullets were greased up with fat and they mutinied. They captured Dehli and Kanpur but were quickly crushed by the British.

    Germany officially became a country instead of a nation state in the Hall of Mirrors in France. The German princes met there and claimed Wilhem of Prussia emperor,
  • Zulu Uprising

    As the British set out to conquer and colonize Africa, they faced much resistance from the Zulu. They resisted the British as they tried to move further and further into their territiory. Eventually, however, they were defeated by the British.

    Representitives from many European countries including Norway, Britain, France, Austria, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, and Russsia. They met to decide what countries were allowed to colonize certain parts of Africa.

    The Russo - Japanese war was a war fought between Russia and Japan. They fought over Korea and Machuria. The Japanese crushed the Russians and the war was mostly fought in the Pacific Ocean. It was a huge transformation of the balance of power in Eastern Asia.
  • Sun Yat-sen takes over China

    Sun Yat-sen takes over China
    When Sun Yat-sen took the presidency of China, he wrote all the other leaders of the Chinese provinces for the Nation Assembly of the Republic of China. This event laid down provisional law of the Republic as basic law.
