Mother Teresa was born on August 26th, 1910 in Skojpe, Macedonia. She was born as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu to parents of albanian descent. -

Mother Teresa left the convent after getting permission from the Pope. She then started the "Missionaries of Charity". -

India had won independence from Great Britian in 1947. Bengal (part of India) was divided into East Pakistan. People living in East Pakistan flooded into Calcutta. The city became crowded with homeless and poor people. -

Mother Teresa started out with no money, no shelter, no food, and no knowledge. None of that mattered though, for all she needed was her drive and her big heart. -

Father Henry helped Mother Teresa find a home to stay in after she left the convent. A place to stay got other people to come and join. -

The poor, sick, and homeless were very important to Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa always said that, the closer she got to the sick and dying in love, the closer she would come to god. -

Sabashini was the first person to join Mother Teresa in her works. She paved the way for others to join. She chose the new name Agnes in honor of Mother Teresa. -
She Refuses To Leave
Mother Teresa and the other nuns were not welcomed, and were threatened to leave. Mother Teresa refused to leave, instead she stayed. -
Catholics vs. Protestants
Mother Teresa flew to Northern Ireland in 1969, because the Catholics were at war with the Protestants. The war had left many people poor and wounded for Mother Teresa to care for. -
Civil War
The Civil War in Beirut, Lebanon causes Mother Teresa to fly over and take the children to safety. -
Nobel Peace Prize
Mother Teresa won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her work with the poor and dying of the world. -
Goodbye Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa died at the age of 87 from a heart failure. Her last days were spent working in Calcutta, India.
