Phenakitstoscope
Dr. Jospeh Antoine Plateau adn Dr. Simon Ritter created a machine called the Phenakitstoscope. This machine produces an illusion of movement by allowing a viewer to look at a rotating disk that holds small windows. Behind the windows are small images that project through and create an animation effect. http://joshuamosley.com/UPenn/courses/Ani/AnimationHistory.html
