My Tech Timeline

  • Period: to

    My Technology Progression

I fall within the Gen Z, iGen, or Centennial category because my birth year is 1996.
  • Grade school computer education

Since grade school, we used laptops at school in the computer center and learned how to use Microsoft word, make PowerPoint presentations, and search the web safely to collect information for research.
  • 9/11

At 5 years old, I remember being at school in Chicago on 9/11/2001 and how quickly we reacted to the information as it was coming into the school.
  • MP3s and Downloading

When I was in 6th grade, I remember riding the bus to school and listening to my little MP3 Player. Looking back now at the amount of time it took to download a few songs off Livewire is nuts!
  • Middle school Gaming

I remember spending hours in the evenings playing ”Sims” on the desktop computer in our office room downstairs. My little sister and I would take turns playing for two hours at a time because the game took up so much space with each game extension we downloaded, that it caused the computer to lag. My mom didn’t like that and eventually got another computer for herself.
  • My first phone!

At the start of 8th grade, I got my first flip phone! I was so excited until one day I was scolded for going over the family plan in minutes and per character T-9 texting!
  • Touch screen phones

After successfully completing my first year of high school and proving that I am a responsible phone owner, I got upgraded to my first touchscreen Samsung phone, for my birthday in June!
  • iPhone

At 23 years old I finally switched over to the dark side and bought an iPhone. This made it easier for me to link my accounts together via iCloud and have my music all on one device.
