The Sugar Act
The Sugar Act reduced the rate of tax on molasses from six pence to three pence per gallon. This act also listed more foreign goods to be taxed. -
The Boston Massacre
British soldiers fired on five colonists. It was the outcome of tensions growing between British and American Colonists from the heavy taxes they enforced on them. -
Boston Tea Party
Anerican Colonists dress as Native Americans and dump tea into the Boston Harbor off of three British ships. -
Shot heard round the World
The British were coming to capture John Hancock and Samuel Adams. They had heard that they were coming and Paul Revere made his famous ride shouting "The British are coming!" A British cammander had asked the Americans to go home. They refused. Suddenly a shot rang out. It was known as "The shot heard round the World". -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
A huge colonial win. Boosted the moral of the Rebels, and Minutemen. Started when they found out Britain was going to take over Dorchester Heights. They saw this as the last straw and had to take action. -
Declaration of Independence
Explains why the colonists should break away from British rule. one statement in the Declaration is "all men are created equal". -
Battle of Saratoga
British had a plan to cut New England off from the rest of the colony. However it did not turn out well for the British. This battle was a major turning point in he colonial favor. Destroyed British hopes of an easy victory. -
Battle of Yorktown
The final major battle of the war. British had gone to the south. The French had the sea and the American and French had the land. The British were trapped they had no option but to surrender.
