    A group known as the Sons of Liberty dressed up like Indians and dumped tea overboard a British ship. This was one of the first defiant acts the colonists made towards the British
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    Shots were fired in Concord as the British searched for arms. No one knew who shot first. They continued their fight in Lexington before the British ran for safety in Charleston. This is considered the very first battle in the Revolutionary War.

    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence informed the British that they were declaring independence from them. It explained why they should be free, listed grievances they had with the British, and most importantly, declared independence.

    Valley Forge was the area where the colonists stayed during the severe winter of 1777-1778. They were devoid of basic needs such as food and water, yet when they finally walked out they were stronger than ever. Valley Forge was able to raise the colonists spirits to help them finally win the war.

    The battle of Yorktown was a siege that lasted for almost a month. The last battle outside of New York was the decisive battle that ended the Revolutionary War.

    The Treaty of Paris was the document that officially ended the Revolutionary War after the Battle of Yorktown decided who won.

    The first shots of the Civil War fired by the confederacy on the Union Garrison. The second battle on September 8th, 1863 was a failed attempt by the Union to take back the fort. These were, as previously mentioned, the first shots of the Civil War and the first battle of the Civil War.

    The 13th amendment officially abolished slavery and set all slaves free. It’s important for the fact that it did so, but also because it set up the mentality of “Separate but Equal” in the 20th century.

    Near the town of Appomattox Court House, Robert E. Lee of the Confederacy surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant of the Union signaling the end of the war and victory for the Union.
