Charlotte Town Conference
Delegates from the Province of Canada including John A. Macdonald, George Brown and D'Arcy McGee join the Maritime colonies for a conference. The conference was originally meant to create aunion between the Maritime provinces, but the Canadian politicians have come with plans for a union of all provinces. Quebec Conference
In October, the delgates of the Charlottetown conference met again in Quebec. The politicians work together to form a plan that works for all and decide that a strong central government must be formed. Together they form the Seventy- Two Resolutions. Fenian Raids
Canada is invaded right here in Niagara Falls! In 1866 roughly 800 Irish Fenians crossed the Niagara River from the United states to strike back at the British for their occupation of their homeland of Ireland.

London Conferance
Sixteen delegates meet for a final confrence. Between the winter of 1866- 1867, the Fathers of Confederation have been working togehte with British Officials to usher in the union. The British North America act and Constitution Act
In the spring of 1867 the British North America act was introduced. It is built on the 72 resolutions worked out at the Quebec Conference. On july 1st 1867, Queen Victoria signed the Constitutional Act of 1867. Manitoba
During the time of confederation, Manitoba did not exist! Instead it was known as Ruperts Land and the Red River settlement which was government by the Hudsons Bay Company. As Canada grew, the new union decided to buy out that land from the Hudsons Bay Company. Bristish Columbia
British Columbia was a newly created province and was having financial difficulties. In 1870 three delgates met with John A. Macdonald to discuss joining confederation. Prince Edward Islan
In 1867 Prince Edward Island had turned down Confederation, but now they were having second thoughts. They were very hoping for a railway to connect them to the rest of Canada, and like British Columbia they were deep in debt. Thus, in 1873, they approached Ottawa and they soon joined confederation.
