  • Washington Becomes First President

    Elected in 1788, term started in 1789. He served two terms.
  • Judiciary Act of 1789

    Created a Supreme Court staffed by a chief justice and five associate justices. Set up thirteen distrit courts authorized to review the decisions of the sate courts.
  • Report on the Public Credit

    Report on the Public Credit
    Hamilton presented this report to Congress. His research stated that the country's outstanding debt was $54 million. The states still owed creditors approximately $25 million.
  • Hamilton's Second Report

    Presented his second report to Congress, proposed that the U.S. government charter a national bank. This pravately owned institution would be funded in part by the federal government.
  • Bank Bill Signed

    Passed by Congress on Feb. 8, Washington signs it, the Bank of the United States is instituted
  • Hamilton's Third Report

    Revealed the final details of his grand design for the economic future of the United States. This lengthy document suggested ways by which the federal government may stimulate manufacturing.

    General Anthony Wayne's forces crush Indian resistance in the Northwest Territory, and the native peoples were compelled to sign the Treaty of Greenville, formally ceding to the U.S. government the land that became Ohio
  • Pickney's Treaty
