Germany Invades Poland
Germany invaded Poland from the north south, and west. They forced Polish forces to the southeast of Poland. While there, the Soviet Union attacked from the east thus leading to Poland being defeated. -

France surrenders to Germany
Germany invades France and forces most of the French army north and must be rescued at Dunkirk by all ships in the area. Shortly after, France surrenders to Germany. -

Publisher of Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Paul Bloack, dies. Paul was the publisher of most war related incidents leading up to his death. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
On December 7, Japan planned a suprise attack on US's Naval port Pearl Harbor. Japan sunk many ships and killed over 2350 people. -
Battle of Midway
The battle of Midway was the most important Naval battle of World War II. America destroyed and did sufficient damage to many Japanese Naval vessels. -

On March 9, A big amount of production was lost because over 25,000 employees could not get to work because the rive rose to a crest of 33.4 feet. -
FDR Dies, Trumanan becomes president
Franklin Roosevelt, our president, was never in completely good health. Towards the end of his presidency, he started getting grey hair and noticable wrinkles of stress and bad health started appearing on his face. On April 12, 1945, FDR was resting as an artist was painting him when he started holding his head. He was suffering a massive cerebral hemorrhage that would end his life. Truman is sworn into office shortly after. -
Hitler Commits Suicide
Allied forces and Soviet forces were closing in on Hitler from all directions. Hitler said defeat was iminent. He commited suicide by cyanide poisoning and by gunshot. -
VE Day
This day commemorates the day that the allies accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany. -

In Pittsburgh, over 100,000 people turned up to welcome home 64 officers and soldiers from the war. -
Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima
A uranium bomb was dropped over Hiroshima which is a Japanese city that is a major spot for over 40,000 Japanese soldiers. -
Atomic Bomb dropped on Nagasaki
On August 6, Truman orders a bombing on Nagasaki called the "fat man". The bomb is dropped around 11 AM and explodes right on impact. -
VJ Day
VJ Day is the day in which Japan officially surrenders ending World War II. -
