It began in November 4th 1979, the crisis started when militant Iranian students outraged at the fact that the US government allowed the Shah of IRan to travel to the US for medical treatment. They decided to keep US soldiers hostage. President Carter could not resolve this crisis diplomatically. Therefore April 24, 1980 the hostage rescue mission ended in disaster. -
