The Homstead Act of 1862
In 1862 congress passed an act called the homestead act. the act gave 160 acres of land to setterlers who paid a fee and lived on the land for 5 years. this act brought lots of farmers to the homestead. -
Fetterman Massacre
Teh souix, cheyenne and arapaho indians attacked men guarding a fort on the Bozeman Trail. The souix leader Crazy Horse lured the men into a trap. He got the fort leader to send 80 men to help. When the men got there to help hundreds of indians ambushed them and killed all the soilders. -
Treaty of Fort Laramie
In 1868 there was a conference at Fort Laramie the caused a treaty to be made. The treaty was supposed to bring peace to the settlers and the souix and the souix agreed to settle in the black hills. -
1874 Dicovery

Battle of Little Bighorn
General Custer and the seventh calverly were told to get all the warriors and put them on the reservation. Custer didnt relize the power of sioux the battle was 250 of CUsters soilders vs. thousands of Sioux and Cheyenne forces. Custer and all of his men were killed in the battle and this was a big triumph for the indians. -
Ghost Dance
The ghost dance was a weay for the souix to express their way of living that was ruined. When the dance became common on the reservations the reservation officials banned it. This angered the souix and caused the battle of wounded knee. -
Wounded Knee
The police came to an indian resevation to arrest Sitting Bull the leader of the sioux there as a problem and Sitting Bull was shot and killed. This anger the other indians on the reservation and they fled to a creek called Wounded Knee in south dakota the army went to get them and there was a pistol shot and a battle broke out 25 soldiers died and over 200 sioux died. Wounded knee was the end of the native american struggle the setterlers had won.
