Japan was becoming crowded by the increase in poulation and the relatively small size of land. Having Manchuria would solve the problem. Plus Japan believed that Manchuria was rich in minerals and forestry also, which were other problems in Japan. -
Reichstag Burning
The burning of the Reichstag Building was done by a group of Nazis to achieve political power. However, it was blamed on the communists. This made it easier for Hitler to put a Dictatorship into place. -
FDR's First Day in Office
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected into office at the worst part of the depression.Nevertheless, he promised action against the problems that the nation faced, and "the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself." -
First Fireside Chat
A little over a week after FDR was elected into office he had his first of 30 evening chats.He would sit down and talk to the nation over the radio and explain what was going on and what he was doing to help. -
Germany Recedes
Germany recedes from the League of Nations on this date. They recede because the rest of the countries won't disarm to the point Germany has, for another eight years. -
Hindenburg Dies
President Paul von Hindenburg dies from lung cancer at his home in East Prussia. Hitler then decides to make him self the successor, but not as President. Hitler becomes known as Fuher, or the Great Leader. -
Peacetime Army
Hitler makes a law formining a peacetime army assembled of 500,000 men. France and England do nothing. To Germany the Treaty of Versailles does not exist anymore. -
Maritime Agreement
Hitler signs a maritime Agreement with Great Britain to establish the building of a Navy. The Navy becomes known as Kreigsmarine. (1935-1945) -
Leaders Meet in Munich
Hitler, Chamberlain, Mussolini, and Daladier (Germany, GB, Italy, and France) meet in Munich to sign the Munich Agreement. The deal had been made the day before to annex Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland to Nazi Germany. -
Great Britain Declares War
Hitler was storming Poland. France and Britain were sworn to protect poland, so they warned Hitler to withdraw. He ignored the request. WW2 had begun. -
Chamberlain Resigns
Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain resigns after pressure from the Labor members for a more active role in the war. He is replaced by Winston Churchill.
