Battles at Lexington and Concord
The British walk to Lexington and Concord to move some gun powder/weapons that they thought were hidden there. They were met by colonists with guns. Although the British won the battle at Lexington Green, they met their match at the Old North Bridge in Concord. -
Bunker Hill
Gage, a british general, sent his troops to fight the colonists at Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill. The British over powered the colonists in numbers, so the British won, but not without a hard blow. The British lost over a thousand soldiers. by Pole -
Capture of Montreal
General Richard Montgomery took a mini army from Fort Ticonderoga in New York to Montreal in Canada. They took montreal rather easily. After Montreal, he turned toward Quebec, wishing to capture the capital of British Canada. -
Quebec Takeover?
Two colonial forces met in Quebec to try and take it down. One force started with 1100 men and got to Quebec with 600, but they attacked the city anyway. The Quebecians won. The second force got to Quebec, also suffering from loss of supplies. The generals met up to plan an attack. Sadly, during their attack the British sent troops to Quebec, forcing the colonists to retreat. -
Battle At New York City
General Howe took his men to Staten Island which is where he attacked New York from. His orders were to capture New York City and move up the Hudson River to southern Canada. -
Battle Of Long Island
General Howe sent his forces to Long Island. In a few days there were over 20,000 British troops in Brooklyn, New York. General George Washington sent 10,000 men to slow down the British advance, while Washington and the rest of the Continental Army prepared for an attack on Manhattan.The colonists lost many troops, the British only lost a few hundred. picture: creativecommons.com -
Battle of White Plains
General Howe attacked tyhe White Planes, driving the Continental Army from the field, killing 230 men. At this point Howe could have destroyed Washington’s army, but instead he stopped, giving Washington the opportunity to go north. -

Battle of Trenton
After slipping back into Pennsylvania the British held off attack for the winter. The Continental Army camped in the town of Valley Forge. By now, the Continental Army had less than 5,000 men left to fight. On Christmas Day Washington attacked. The British were taken by surprise and lost the battle. -
Battle of Princeton
The Continental Army crossed the Delaware. Things were looking down because a huge British army was waiting for the colonists. The colonists dodged that army however and went onward to Princeton. There the Continental Army fought a small British force which lost 500 more men. Washington managed to drive the British out of southern New Jersey. -

Battle of Ticonderoga
The Americans inside Fort Ticonderoga found the British setting up their artillery on the heights of Sugar Loaf. they realised that it was a lost cause at this point and evacuated immediately, allowing the British to take the fort. -
Fort Stanwix
A small British force was heading east, made up of soldiers and Iroquois Indians. The troops surrounded Fort Stanwix, ambushing and destroying 800 local militia men that were on their way to relieve the fort. But the colonists never gave up, causing the British troops to leave due to boredom. -
Fort Stanwix part 2
Meanwhile General Benedict Arnold was trying to makea new force to relieve the fort. he only got 100 men for the purpose, so he sent agents into the Mohawk Valley to tell people that he was on his way with many men. St. Leger believed the rumor and headed back to Canada. -
Battle of Brandywine
General Washington rushed with his Continental Army and set up a line of defenses at Chadds Ford. But, unexpectedly Howe divided his forces. He sent 5,000 to attack Washington, while the rest of the British army moved toward the right of the Continental Army. 1000 americans were killed. -
Battle of Saratoga
Benedict Arnold was able to hold off a British attack, but the British made fortifications in New York City, hoping to have reinforcements come for a second attempt at capturing Saratoga. -
Battle of Saratoga part 2
In the British's second attempt at Saratoga, not only were the British repelled, but the colonists hit them with a counterattack, forcing the British away from the fort. -

Battle of Monmouth
General Henry Clinton had become concerned that his position in Philadelphia was prone to a French attack, sohe left the city and Washington decided to attack the British while they headed back to New York. The two armies met near Monmouth, New Jersey. Washington, personally rallied the troops, getting them to hold off two British counterattacks.
