Sinking of the Lusitania
The british ship Lusitania was sunk by a torpedo from a german submarine. It was an ocean liner. The sinking killed all but 739 people out of a total 1959 people. -

Battle was between the french and german armies. 250000 people died during the battle. There was fog, heavy rain, and high winds. The Armistice of 11 November 1918 finally put an end to the battle. -
Battle of Jutland
The battle was a naval battle between the germans and the british. It was the only full scale naval battle of WW1. The battle took place all over the North sea. The battle remained inconclusive on who was victorious but british naval dominance remained. -
Battle of the Somme
A German officer detonated a 40,000 lb mine under Hawthorne Ridge. It lasted four months and there was no definate winner. -
US declares war
The US entered the war in 1917 siding with the allied powers and waging war against the central powers. -
USSR withdraws from the war
The USSR wanted peace. They defaulted on its commitments with the Triple Entete. -
German Spring offensive of 1918
In 1918 the germans launched a major offensive on the western front, not to win the war, but to hold what territories that they wanted. -
WW1 ends
The treaty of Vrsailles is signed by the allies and central powers officialy ending the war. The aftermath left 8 million soldiers killed and 7 million permanently disabled, and costed billions of dollars and many years to rebuild europe.
