    Series of invasions of the Holy Lands that wetted the European taste for Oriental goods. Since Italy had a monopoly, they searched for ways around it.

    Lifespan of Prince Henry the Navigator

    Dates unexact. He made a school to teach people to use new navigation technology. He was Portugese, and so Portugal had more expierienced sailors.

    Getting funding from Spaind, Comumbus sailed to what he thought was India. He instead found the New World.

    Bull of Demarcation and Treaty of Tordesailles

    Treaty designed by pope that divided the New World between the Spanish and the Portugese. Put a line in that was kind of vague, so terretory was spread out. Britain, as a Protestant nation, just ignored it.

    1000 Virginians attacked Governer Berkley.They attacked Indians and drove governer Berkley out. Burned the capital. Then Bacon died of fever. Berkley crushed the rebellion and hanged 20 rebels to make the point.

    Townshend Acts

    Over the course of 1767, various Townshend Acts were proposed and passed, all with the goal of raising money so that Britain could pay it's officers in the New World and gain control over them. It taxed glass, tea, paper and paint. It was repealed on March 5, 1770, except for the Tea tax. How was Townshend at chess?

    A group of colonicts were harrasing some British soldiers. Feeling endangered, the soldiers spontaneously fired -without orders- killing several colonists. Several colonial reporters played it up to create anger against the British. John Adams defended the soldiers in court, and they were acquitted.

    The British mercheant ship ran aground near Rhode Island. The Sons of Liberty seized it and burned it to the sea. The British investigated,but the colonists didn't snitch and the British had to give up. The Gaspee captain was actually put on trial for some charge that was probably made up...

    Revolutionary War

    A war between the colonies and England. The goal of the colonists was to tira the British out and make them leave, and to this end they traded space for time. Started by by the shot heard round the world at Lexington-Concord. Turning point was Saratoga. The end was when Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown. Officialy ended by the Treaty of Paris in 1783. Most was fought without an official government. The colonies had no central nerve point to capture and end the war.
  • Zombie-Ninja War in Canada

    In this war, the zombie outbreak started in Canada. The Ninja King sent his legions to contain the threat. Since the ninja's ability to hide doesn't work against the zombies, the ninjas were pushed to extinction, until the British gave the ninjas extra equipment and helped them win.     Some dudes met in Philadelphia, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Decleration of Independence. They signed it, declaring their own country and telling England to stuff it.

    Battle between colonial army and British army. British victory in the 1st part.
  • 2nd part of the Battle of Saratoga

    2nd part of the Battle of Saratoga
    The turning point of the American Revolution. Decisive American victory. This caused the French to make a treaty with the colonies and help them for the rest of the war. The repurcussions would be felt later during the French Revolution, when the Jeffersonians said the treaty was still in effect and the US must help their French Friends.

    Unanimous approval required, so Maryland managed to hold the process up by refusing to ratify it. They had war debts and no western lands to do stuff with.

    Not the nicest time period. Shay's rebellion occured, and a ton of people went into debt. The British refused to give up their forts in the old Northwest, and the colonial Ninjas failed to drive them out. The Congress had no power toi tax, or regulate interstate trade. The individual states refused to get along, and I think there were some border clashes. Additionaly, the "United" States had difficulty getting recognized as a country by many world powers.

    Siege of Yorktown

    The British retreated to Yorktown to be picked up by their ships, but the French fleet drove off the Britidh fleet. Bottled up by Washington and the French Fleet, Cornwallis surrendered and finally we had won. Well, the shot heard round the world...

    First President of the USA. Enforced a policy of neutrality until the US had enough people to be a threat. Had to put down Whiskey Rebellion. Recommended no permanent alliances. Established precedent of 2 terms and havig a cabinet. Only president to be unanimousley elected.

    French Revolution

    The French Revolution was the revolution (duh) where the French overthrew the King and statred a democracy. Many in the US (specifiacally the Jeffersonians) approved, seeing the continuation of their struggle here. Somehow the British butted in. Washington declared US neutrality, which helped the French, because they could trade frrely with the US instead of slipping through British blockades.

    A fairly unpopular president. He believed in being above party politics and did a good job. He was extremely dislikable, but he got the job done. Followed Washington's policy of neutrality

    when he was elected, it was called a revolution, because he was the first republican elected. Imposed an embargo to try to get Britain and France to quit being butts. It failed, and people got mad at him
  • Essex Junto

    Plot by federalists to secede the north. They got Burr in on it, so he could run for governer of NY, but Hamilton messed it up.
  • Hamilton's Death

    Burr challenges Hamilton to a duel. Hamilton refuses to shoot, and Burr kills him.
  • Non Intercourse Act

    Repealed Jefferson's Embargo of 1807. Basically refined it. Instead of no trade with the world, no trade with England or France

    The War of 1812 started during his presidency. Repealed Jefferson's embargo and made it so there was no trade with England or France. Macon's bill #2 was passed, and Napoleon played it to embargo Britain. Then the War of !812 happened
  • The Erskine Agreement

    An agreement between Britain and the Us. The agreement was that the British would repeal the Orders of Council, but the British didn't follow through

    Started on June 4, 1812. The nation was split over it, with about a 75%-25% vote in each house. Mostly a deadmate war. US couldn't win, neither could Britain. Caused by the Warhawks in Congress. Most specacular victory was in New Orleans, 2 weeks after the armistice restoring all land to both sides.

    A federalsit meeting. Many worried that they were planning the secession of the north, but they were just making a list of grievences. When they presented them, the war had just ended, making them seem like whiny brats. Led to the collapse of the federalist party and the Era of Good Feelings.

    Elected almost unanimously (only missed one vote). Pres. during the Era of Good Feelings. only president to be reelected after a financial crisis (Panic of 1819).
