Release of Stairway to Heaven
• Stairway to heaven was written by the band Led Zeppelin
• It was released in late 1971
• The eight minute song is composed of several sections
• It starts as a acoustic based folk song and ends with a high tempo rock section that is highlighted by a guitar solo
• It is considered one of the best rock songs of all time
• Voted number 3 in VH1’s 100 greatest rock songs, number 31 in the rolling stones top 500 and was the most requested song on US radio -
Baseball Strike
• Baseball players go on strike in 1972
• It lasted 13 days: 1st April- 13th April
• The players gained free agency after 6 years of playing
• This was the first ever sporting strike
• Regular season games were lost but not made up
• As a result AL East was won by the Detroit Tigers who beat the Boston Red Sox by ½ a game
• This was the first and only time so far the pennant race has been won by ½ a game
• The maximum amount of games played was 156 instead of 162 -

Israeli Olympic Team Murdered
• 5 terrorists climbed the 6 and ½ foot fence at the Olympic Village at 4:30 AM
• The grouped with the other terrorists who gained access with credentials
• At 5:00 AM they knocked on the door of the Israeli wrestling coach Moshe Weinberg
• Realizing something was wrong he shouted, warning the other athletes
• Moshe Weinberg and the teams weightlifter Joseph Romano tries to block the door while the others escaped
• They were killed by the terrorists -
End of the Vietnam War
• After 8 years of war (1965-1973) the war was over for the Allies
• President Nixon brought in the Vietnamization
• Withdrawing Allied troops from Vietnam and giving weapons, helicopters and ammunition to the South Vietnamese
• Although Allied troops had left Vietnam the war still raged on between the north and south
• Approximately 1million North Vietnamese troops and Viet Cong troops died
• Approximately 86,000 civilians and 33,000 Prisoners of War were killed
• 58,000 Americans died -
Descovery of The Terracotta Army
• The terracotta army was discovered in the spring of 1974
• Was discovered by a group of farmers
• There were only reports of fragments found before this
• There were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses
• They were lined in their role; from general down.
• The emperors tomb is rumored to be underneath the army in a tomb the size of a football field
• The tomb is still unopened -

• Before movies were released slowly in different countries before others
• Two other top class movies followed this suit; Star Wars and The Omen
• Widely regarded as one of the best movies of all time

Tenerife Airport Disaster
• Two 747 passenger jets, the KLM Flight 4805 and the Pan Am Flight 1736 collide on a runway in Spain
• A total of 583 people died during the crash making it the deadliest accident in aviation history.
• There were only 61 survivors out of the total 644 people on either plane.
• Dense fog, multiple bomb threats at two separate airports, several misunderstandings in communication and no ground radar at the airport were all factors of the disaster. -
Release of STAR WARS
• Star Wars 4- A New Hope released on the 25th of May 1977
• This would be the first release of a 6 movie series
• Star wars is the 3rd highest grossing series behind Harry Potter and James Bond
• It made 4.41 Billion dollars
• The movie series was also made into many comic books
• Star Wars 4, 5 and 6 were part of the original trilogy.
• Star Wars 1, 2 and 3 were released 22 years later
