  • Non aggression pact

    before WWII broke out in Europe the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed the Nonaggression Pact stating the two countries agreed to take no military action against each other for the next 10 years.
  • Battle of Britain

    German and British air forces clashed over the united kingdom . It was a significant turning point of WWII .The battle ended when Germany's Luftwaffe failed to gain the upper hand over the Royal Air Force.
  • Battle of Midway

    The US had part in major advances in code breaking because of this they countered Japan's plans to ambush of its last few aircrafts , this caused permanent damage to the Japanese Navy. This stopped Japanese advance and moved the united states and allies into an offensive position.
  • Atlantic Conference

    ** Churchill & FDR ** Alliance strengthened between the US and Great Britain by signing the Atlantic Charter .

    Battle of Stalingrad

    Brutal battle between the Russian , Nazi Germany and the Axis powers. it was one of the longest largest and bloodiest battles to date . more than 2 million fought and nearly 2 million were injured or killed. This war ultimately turned the tides of the war in favor of the allies.
  • Operation Torch

    This was the first time the Americans and British worked on a plan together. This was the invasion of North Africa launched to free the Mediterranean sea from German control and protected the oil fields in the middle east. It took some of the pressure off of the USSR but the soviets resistance at Stalingrad turned the tide of the eastern front all leading up to the Italian campaigns.

    Italian Campaign

    This was a series of allied beach landings all the way up to Italian mainland. they opened up another front but still delayed direct attack on Germany. Italy surrendered but the German troops continued to fight in Italy which tied the allied troops to the attack of D-Day .
  • Tehran Conference.

    ** Stalin, FDR, and Churchill ** This was the first meeting between the most important countries in the Anti-Nazi alliance. The aim was to create a successful plan against Japan and Germany. It was also to discuss post-war world . We got the soviets to agree to help us defeat the Japanese.
  • Operation Overlord

    This was the largest seaborne invasion ever recorded. it resulted in the allied liberation of western Europe from the Nazi control . we dropped 156,000 american , British and Canadian forces on 5 beaches off of the coast of Normandy . It was one of the largest military assaults in history . But it finally provided the long awaited western front.
  • Battle of Bulge

    It's objective was to split allied armies by means of surprise. the allied forces took the appearance of a bulge which is how the battle got its name. this battle was the last German offensive and was the beginning of the end for the Nazis.
  • Yalta Conference

    Involved the 3 allied leaders Churchill , Roosevelt and Stalin. They discussed the final plans for the defeat of the Europeans. The also discussed plans for the post war and during this conference they got the soviets to agree to help us defeat the Japanese.
  • Battle Of Iwo Jima

    It was a campaign between the US Marines and the Imperial army of japan. The island had 3 airfields that could serve as facilities for the potential invasion of japan. so Americans invaded the island the the fighting lasted for 5 weeks. it is believed that 200 of the 21,000 Japanese forces on the island were killed and we lost 7,000 marines. ** The battle demonstrated that the Japanese would not give in.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    The last major battle of WWII ( one of the bloodiest ) it was part of operation iceberg & 180,000 US army and Marine troops invaded the island as a final attempt to push towards japan. ** This battle demonstrated that the Japanese were not going to give in , revealing how costly invasion would be.
  • Surrender of Berlin/German

    the soviets marched from the east and met in berlin to destroy what was left of the Nazi's . Knowing that the defeat of them was virtually undeniable Hitler committed suicide, leading to the surrendering of the Nazi's
  • Potsdam Conference

    Stalin and Truman discuss the unconditional surrender of the Japanese.
  • Hiroshima bombing

    American B-29 bomber dropped the first atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The weapon wiped out around 90 percent of the city's population and simultaneously killed 80,000 people on impact, later the radiation left over killed thousands more. As a result the japanese surrendered on the 15th of august , this also sparked more arguing between the US and Soviet Union because they wouldn't share their secret of how they made the atomic bombs.
  • Nagasaki Bombing

    Similar to the bombing of Hiroshima and took place by the B-29 bombers. killed an estimated amount of 40,000 people. As a result the japanese surrendered on the 15th of august , this also sparked more arguing between the US and Soviet Union because they wouldn't share their secret of how they made the atomic bombs.
