    This story takes place in Lidice, Czechoslovakia.

    Milada is the main character. Her beautiful blonde hair stands out the most.
    Terezie is Milada's best friend. They love to plan their birthdays together.
    Milada's family consists of her mama, papa, big brother Jaroslav, baby sister Anechka, and grandmother babushka.
    Ruzha is a mean girl at Milada's school.

    Rising Action 1 - Conflict
    Milada is taken away from her family and brought to a german training camp in Puschkau, Poland. Just as she is about to leave, her grandmother tells her never to forget her Czech life. She also gives Milada a star pin. But, at the camp, Milada is told to forget her past Czech life and focus on becoming a perfect german citizen.

    Milada is renamed as Eva, as her new german name.

    Heidi, the youngest girl at the camp, uses the Polish language instead of German. As a punishment, she gets hard spankings.

    Ruzha, renamed as Francheska, easily forgets her past life while Eva tries very hard to remember her other life by keeping close her grandmother's pin. Also, Eva says her name over and over again every night in her head.

    Eva becomes friends with another girl at the camp named Liesel.

    Eva and Liesel sneak outside every night into an old church to share secrets. They agree that in the church to use thie real names, Milada and Kataryzyna. Also, Milada shows Kataryzyna the north star.

    Fraulein Kruger takes the girls into a small town to go shopping. Each girl recieves a new uniform and a coin.

    When shopping at a candy shop, a polish lady yells at Eva because she thinks she is a nazi child. This upsets Eva because the woman looks like her grandmother.

    Eva and the other girls get adopted. Eva's new family live in Furstenburg, Germany.

    Eva meets her new brother and sister, Elsbeth and Peter. Eva is told to call her parents Mutter and Vater, which is German for Mother and Father.

    Eva realizes she forgot many things about her past life even though she had tried hard not to. She forgot her name, her grandmother's name, and how to speak in Czech. Eva begins to wonder if she belongs in this family. Eva thinks she will never see her real family again. She wonders if she belongs in any family.
  • Resolution 1

    Resolution 1
    Germany looses the war and Hitler dies. This allows the family to come outside and recover after the bombing and weeks spent in the shelter. Everything is shattered and destroyed. The family must work hard to restore their home.
  • Resolution 2

    An american woman comes to take Eva to her mother. She doesn't complain about leaving. She simply says, "I want to go home."
  • Resolution 3

    Milada is rejoined with her ill mother in Prague, Czecoslovakia. She learns that her Papa and brother, Jaro, have been killed. Her grandmother died in the Ravensbruck nazi camp, the same one where Milada had seen the woman singing. Her little sister, Anechka is in a german foster family, just like the one Milada was in. Milada and her mother are able to live in a small apartment for Milada to learn about Czechoslovakia again.
