Korean War
The Korean War started when the North Koreans invaded South Korea. The Communist North Koreans were backed by the USSR and the Capitalist South Koreans were backed by the United States. 33,741 U.S. military soldiers died in the "forgotten war". The POW's of the war had little chances of living. Out of 7,245 POW's, 2,847 were found dead and only 389 were returned to the U.S.A. It ended on July 27, 1953. -
The Establishment of the KGB
The KGB was an umbrella organization for the Soviet Unions premier security agency, secret police, and intelligence agency. The KGB's operation encompassed functions and powers such as the United States Central Intelligence Agency. They were meant to liquidate any anti-Soviet and counter revolutionary organizations within the Soviet Union. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam War represented a successful attempt on the part of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam & the National Front for the Liberation of Vietnam to unite & impose a communist system over the entire nation. Vietnam occured during the Cold War and is generally viewed as an indirect conflict between the U.S. and the USSR. The North was turned into a Communist government and the South into a Democratic government. The U.S. trained the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a time during which President J.F.K. and the Russian Premier stared each other down for seven days. The U.S. received word that the Soviets were making missile bases in Cuba se JFK ordered a naval landlock to block supply tranfer. The Russian Premier said to fire the missiles if the U.S. stepped foot in Cuba. Both powers stood each other down until Russia gave into the U.S. demands. The Soviets could have caused a nuclear Holocaust. -
Kent State Massacre
A group of unarmed civilian college students formed a peaceful protest of the American Invasion of Cambocia. When the Ohio National Guard showed up they opened fire towards the students. During a 13-second time period, 67 rounds were poured into a crowd of young college students, killing 4 and wounding 9 of whom one was permanently paralyzed.
