An African American 14-year-old boy from Chicago was murdered while visiting his family in Mississippi. He was killed because he was allegedly flirting with a woman a few days prior. The woman's husband (who had killed Emmett) went to trial and was found not guilty by an all-white jury. This trial was in mainstream media and many people were outraged by the results.
