Joe Montana Hurts His Elbow
Joe Montana’s injury came in maybe the most devastating loss in 49ers history. Up 13-9 in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship Game vs. the Giants, Montana hurt his elbow on a brutal hit that also caused him to cough up the ball. It was Roger Craig’s historically boneheaded fumble later in the game that finally sunk San Francisco, but you have to think that with Montana still playing, the 49ers would have pulled away and gone on to their third straight Super Bowl. -
Jerry Rice Blows Out His Knee
Also known as the day “Superman crashed in to a building.”. The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice suffered a left knee injury after getting hit by Steve Atwater. Rice was then in a brace for 6 weeks and returned next season. San Francisco finished 13-3 that year and won the NFC West. Rice bounced back next season to record 1,157 yards and nine TDs. -
Bryant Young Detsroys His Leg
The 49ers' season took a sickening turn last night. Defensive tackle Bryant Young, one of the team's two irreplaceable players, was lost for the year after he suffered a fracture of his lower right leg midway through the fourth quarter against the New York Giants. However, the team still managed to win 31-7. -
Garrison Hearst Messes up His Ankle
In a 2 point loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Runningback Garrison Hearst breaks a bone in his left leg, chaise his ankle to bend back on a 7 yard run. Many players were shocked and caused the 49ers to change their gameplan from the run game to throwing the ball. -
Steve Young’s Last Concussion
Steve Young never really saw it coming, causing him to have his 4th concussion in 3 years. Young stated that he was shocked by the hit from Arizona’s cornerback Aeneas Williams. The 49ers still managed to pull a 24-10 win over the Cardinals, but days later Young returned to practice but didn’t play against Tennessee Titans.
