Frankie Albert
He played as a quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers when the team started back in the 1946. Albert attended Stanford University, where he led the 1940 football team to an undefeated season and the Rose Bowl. Y.A Tittle
Tittle served as QB for the 49ers from 1952 to 1960. Tittle was drafted in the 1951 NFL Draft by the 49ers. Through ten seasons in San Francisco, he was invited to four Pro Bowls, led the league in touchdown passes in 1955, and was named the NFL Player of the Year by the United Press in 1957. Tittle was part of the 49ers' famed Million Dollar Backfield, was the first professional football player featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. -

Steve Spurrier
Steve Spurrier served as QB from 1972 to 1975. The 49ers picked him in the first round of the 1967 NFL draft, and he spent a decade playing professionally in the NFL, mainly as a backup quarterback and punter. Spurrier was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1986. -

Joe Montana
Joe "The Comeback Kid" Montana, one of the most notable QB's for the 49ers served from 1979 to 1990. Among his career highlights, "The Catch" (the game-winning touchdown pass vs. Dallas in the 1981 NFC Championship Game) and a Super Bowl-winning 92-yard drive against the Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII are staples of NFL highlight films. The 49ers retired the number 16, the jersey number Montana wore while with the team. -

Steve Young
Steve Young, another notable QB for the 49ers, served from 1987 to 1999. Young was named the Most Valuable Player of the NFL in 1992 and 1994, and the MVP of Super Bowl XXIX. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He ranks third in NFL history in career passer rating among NFL quarterbacks who have thrown at least 1,500 passing attempts (96.8). Young also won a record six NFL passing titles. -

Tim Rattay
Rattay entered the league as the seventh-round pick (212th overall) of the 49ers in the 2000 NFL Draft. When QB Jeff Garcia was released from the team, largely due to salary cap constraints,[3] Rattay was given the starting job. Alex Smith
Alex Smith was selected by the 49ers with the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He played for a different offensive coordinator each year, and struggled with injuries. In 2011 however, Smith enjoyed his strongest statistical season, leading the 49ers to their first NFC West division title and first playoff victory since 2002 along with their first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1997. The following season, Smith sustained a concussion in the middle of the season. -

Kaepernick began his professional football career as a backup quarterback to Alex Smith, and became the starter in the 2012 season after Smith suffered a concussion. He then remained the team's starting quarterback for the rest of the season, leading the team to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994.
