The Dutch arrive in Australia
The Dutch discovers Australia, but they get attacked by the Aborigines, so they fled back to the Netherlands. -
Captain James Cook claims Australis for England.
Captain James Cook sails around Australia and names it New South Wales. When he claimed this land for England he just ignored the Aborigines (that's not what the Dutch did). -
Australia is used as a prison.
During the American Revoultion Australia was used as a prison, because before Georgia was used as a prison, but since they were fighting against them they couldn't send the prisoners there -
The Boundries are formed!
Great Britian thought that Australia was a great place to start a colony because of its locaton (it's in the South Pacific which is good for its naval bases. This gave them many oppotunities to trade with the Americas and Asia. So they made boundries to seperate the prisoners from the navy people. -
No more prisoners in Australia!
Great Britian stopped sending prisoners here because other peole started coming here and making businesses, trading places, and farms for farming. You can't send prisoners to a place where people are trying to live in peace! -
Nonprisoners started settling on coastal areas!
Since the nonprisoners were moving to coastal areas they established seven colonies, commonwealth of Australia, and Melbourne was made capital (now it's Canberra). Ended after World War 2. Now Australis is ver diverse in its people! -
White Australia!
Great Britian Restricted migration of people from other countries. Primarly from European decendants. -
Canberra becomes capital!
Canberra was made capital after it was finished (Melbourne served in its place until it was finished). -
Aborigines go on strike!
Federal government came to pass legilation to help the Aborigines because of their unfair treatment. They went on strike from farming and other things and got their land back and rights. -
Australia Act is made!
This act sated that all legal ties with Great Britian were served that day. Australia is now a parlimentary democracy and a constitutional monarch ( Queen Elizebeth is their queen). -
Rejection of independance!
55% of the voters in Australia rejected the idea of becoming an independent republic ( without British rule).
