    Vichy France Begins
    When Germany defeated France, they divided into two parts. These parts were controlled by German forces and were used to aid German's in war. This kicked many French out.
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    This was the air campaign waged by the German Air Force against the United Kingdom. It was primarily use to defeat the Royal Air Force. However, Germany failed and it was considered the first defeat of Germany during the war.
  • Japan Joins Axis

    Japan Joins Axis
    Japan joined the Axis in order for support to convert to the same type of government Italy and Germany had. That is the reason why they had joined; power.

    Hitler breaks Non-Aggression agreement and invades the Soviet Union
    Stalin had ignored all of the signs that Germany would invade the Soviet Union. The territories the Soviets had gained due to this pact were lost in a matter of weeks. Their imports were vital to Germany, causing Germany to become stronger. He broke it due to already invading Poland with Stalin and succesfully gaining it. He didn't have to deal with Poland invading. Now he could go after Stalin and gain full control.

    This was a surpise attack by the Japanese navy on the U.S. navy at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Japanese did this as a preventive action in order to keep the U.S. from influencing the war that the Japanese were planning in South East Asia. This event was what drew the U.S. into war.
  • Japanese Ambassadors Arrive in Washinton, DC

    When they arrived, the United States had heard about the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Ambassadors were told to shred all the documents they had.
  • FDR approves “shoot on sight”

    FDR approves “shoot on sight”
    "Shoot on Sight" is a term FDR used and ordered any Americans to shoot at Germans no questions asked. This was undeclared war in the Pacific.
  • Germany and Italy Declare War on U.S.

    This happened right after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S. and this was done in Germany, as Hitler adressed the Reichstag.
  • MacArthur returns

    MacArthur returns
    MacArthur made his promise to return to the Phillipines to free the people from Japanese power. He promised to return when the army was stong enough to defeat Japan. He would check in and when he had found they were strong and ready, he returned and he was the one who accepted the formal surrdenering of the Japanese.

    The United States had to surrender to Japan due to lack of food and sickness. The men were marched to a camp and on the way, many were beaten, shot, killed, etc. This was just to get to a POW camp so they could be fed and healthier.
  • MacArthur Promises to Return

    MacArthur Promises to Return
    MacArthur promises to come back to Phillipines to help the people from Japanese Invasion into their land. He created an army in the Phillipines to fend off the Japanese from take over. Since that day, he promised to return to help.

    Battle of Coral Sea
    This occured from May 4 to may 8. The U.S. fleet carrier named Yorktown sunk many of the Japanese ships in the Oloman Islands in the Coral Sea. The U.S. and Japanese ships had retreated due to much damage caused to both. The Japanese thought they ahd won because of them destroying many ships. However, the U.S. and allied forces thought they won due to them being the firstt to stop Japanese expansion.

    Occured from June fourth to June seventh. It involved the U.S. and Japan and happened at the U.S. mid-pacific base at Midway atoll. Japanese fleet commander Yamamoto planned to attack the U.S. here to destroy us. His plan was to arrive their quiclkly, destory our ships and crew, then take over the two small islands at Midway atoll and create a base. However, we were already ready and waited for them, causing to defeat them.
  • Guadalcanal

    This battle took place near the Solomon Islands and was where the Marines came onto the Island against the Japanese to take control. However, war was stagnant at the time and took them about 8 months to control. However, the Japanease ceased and left, having a great turning point for the Allie; stopping Japanese expansion.
  • U-Boats Sink Merchant Vessels

    German U-Boats attacked Allie ships that were carrying ore to New Foundland.
  • General Eisenhower and his forces land in North Africa

    Eisenhower and his men landed in North Africa to help the Red Army fight in the Soviet Union.
  • End of Battle Of Stalingrad

    End of Battle Of Stalingrad
    This batte was between Germany and the Soviet Union for the city Stalingrad in Russia. The Germans became surrounded from the soviets from the north and south of Russia. That caused Germany to loose. The casualities, however, were put on the general for blame and not Hitler.
  • Sicily Falls

    Guerillas captured Mussolini and had executed him after the many battles between the Allies and Axis powers.
  • Rome Falls

    The first Axis Powers were defeated by the Allie Troops as they came into Rome. The Allies were greeted with cheers from the people of Rome.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The invasion of Normandy Beaches in France. The allied forces defeated the German troops with 155,000 men and aloud them to take over the beach. It also allowed them to continue on in their hopes for finding Adolf Hitler.
  • Kamikaze Atacks Begin

    Japanese tactic called Kamikaze. They were suicide bombers who attacked the Allied Forces from air planes.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    This was a German offensive that was used to have the German defeat the allied powers. The goal of the offensive was to split the British and American allie line in half, capturing Antwerp, Belgium, and then go after the middle of the allies, causing the allies to be forced to sign a axis powers treaty. Germany also tried to reach the Meuse River for their destination, but had failed to due so when they lost many casualities. This claimed defeat for the Allies.

    Raising of the American flag on Iwa Jima. As many Japanese men retreated to underground tunnels, colonol Chandler Johnson gave a small flag to let his men raise on the top of the mountain.
  • Truman becomes President

    Truman becomes President
    Harry S. Truman became the 33rd president when President Theordore Roosevelt had died and passed away.
  • Hitler Commits Suicide

    Hitler Commits Suicide
    After intense street combat with the Soviet Union, Hitler said a farewell to the Nazi party and his wife and him went back to the headquarters and commited suicide. Hitler shot himself with a gun and his wife used a bomb.
  • V-E Day

    This was the victory in Europe where the Allies accepted the surrender of Germany and the Third Reich. This ended WW2.
  • Okinawa Taken

    This was fought on the Ryukyu Islands in Okinawa. The main point of this was to capture the main islands from the mainland of Japan for more space.
  • Nagasaki

    U.S. had dropped a bomb on the city after Japan had no compliance with the Postdam Declaration given by the United States.
  • V- J Day

    Day in which Allies announced surrender of Japan.
  • Formal Surrender of Japan

    Formal Surrender of Japan
    Japan had to surrender when their army could no longer hold the capacity for operations and was weakening right in front of their eyes. After surrendering to the Allied forces, Japan offically surrendered on a written document on the USS Missouri.
  • Hiroshima

    After an executive order from Truman, the United States was to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima that is located in Japan. This bomb killed over 100,000 people in Japan.
